On The Obi-Datti Candidacy, A New Nigeria Beckons - Chukwudịmma Aaron-Okonkwo

Sixty-two years after Independence is a pretty long time for people lucky enough to live through or part of it to come to glaring terms that majority of our leaders have indeed led us astray. HE Peter Obi repeatedly says that we found ourselves in the present mess because of cumulative leadership failures over the years.

That we have remained an import-bound-consumptive nation is a testament that our economy is still being held by the jugular.

For over five decades after independence, the leaders that drive our national affairs and development have been exporting the mainstay of our natural resources - the crude oil - to Europe, yet we remain at the lowest pace of transformative development. The glaring fact that we are a net exporter of crude oil across the world and yet being ranked the poverty capital of the world today, predisposes that something and everything is not right with our leadership. To right the wrongs, we need to rejig our system of leadership through the complete participation of all citizens in this country in our political processes of electing our leaders.

For too long, we have kept faith with our fatherland, electing people that we thought are the messiahs that will liberate us from the shackles of transactional governance. We elected them thinking that they would truly work down their promises in action, but unfortunately, we have been wrong. We were so tricked to believe them. Yet today, going by the new revolutionary movement across the country, it appears that we are all ready to effect a brand new leadership into our system of governance.

For our dear country to attain an enviable level of development and equally reclaim its pride as the Giant of Africa, what we must do in the upcoming 2023 general elections is to elect the right leaders, not right leaders per se, but thoroughly verified, sufficiently experienced and visionary-oriented leaders. Yes, the master key to opening the doors of gigantic developments that will transform our lives through sound economy policies is supporting and electing transformative leaders.

It is without question in the pair of the Labour Party presidential candidate, HE Mr Peter Obi and vice presidential candidate, Sen. Dr Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed that we have found such visionary leaders that will give us a brand new Nigeria. On the Obi-Datti candidacy beckons a new Nigeria that will turnaround our negative economy from consumption to the positive economy of production. Arise oh compatriots to the call of OBIdience and YUSfulness!
